Well, what can I say about myself as a Snow fan? My name is Azzdem and like most people I suppose, I became a fan of Snow's when Informer spent 7 weeks or so at the top spot on the Australian Charts back in '93. I must admit I didn't actually know at the time that Snow was singing in English. I thought it was a song by this dude rapping in another language. In fact, I didn't even know about reggae, dancehall or freestylin'. I was about 12 years old back then in Australia. One day after school the music video of Informer was played on the ABC on a programme fittingly titled The Afternoon Show. They'd aired the video with the song lyrics panning on the bottom of the screen. I immediately went out and bought the tape version of 12 Inches of Snow on the strength of the first single alone. CDs were a new thing back then. I didn't have a CD player at the time and to make myself feel better (among other things) I told myself that the two CD bonus tracks 50 Ways and Lonely Monday Morning (remix) were "probably crap". I'm a big enough man to admit when I'm wrong! Since those early days I made it my mission to try and suss out what Snow was singing. Intrigued by Snow's style and speed, I listened to that album over and over again. |
In 1999 I got access to the internet at home and tried to find Snow lyrics online. (AltaVista was much more popular then). There were none! No that's a lie, the only Snow lyrics were of Informer. Well, I wanted to know if what I thought Snow was singing was right so I set up a small personal website and transcribed my version of Snow's lyrics. I put question marks on verses or lines for the life of me I just couldn't unravel. By 2000 there was a bit of a buzz about Snow among some fans and a few websites emerged. I was part of a tight knit community of a handful of websites dedicated to Snow. (You can see some of my fan buddies credited in the transcriptions to Snow's lyrics). In the last couple of years, every single lyrics website under the sun has copied the lyrics that were originally posted (with the question marks and all). Some of them retained the credits, some didn't. But that's not the issue. I'm just proud of the fact that Snow fans were able to better enjoy the songs knowing more of what Snow was saying. I certainly did. Since then I've expanded to Snow guitar tabs and sheet music, motivated initially by trying to figure out how to play Lady With the Red Dress on the keyboard. I even sequenced a couple of MIDI files to illustrate the bits I'd figured out so people can follow along with the tabs or notes. Also, I've joined forces with Amazon in the hope that international fans like myself may support Snow through this website by buying the albums that weren't released locally. As always, I welcome any corrections, suggestions and general feedback on the website. If I incorporate your corrections, you will be credited. Please note that requests for more tabs or midis may take some time as I am currently about to embark on a remote project for my day job as an engineer, so I will have limited access to my musical instruments!
